June 30th, 2011. Presented by Ground Lift Media, FACE MELT is a new monthly event series which showcases envelope-pushing artists on a local, national, and international level. The 2011 programming schedule includes Live Bands, Live PA sets, DJs/Turntablists, & Touring Acts spanning genres like Dubstep, Glitch,Electronic, Hip-Hop, and Beat-related. And if that's not enough, the resident roster boasts some of Chicago's finest talents -Maker (Stonesthrow, Now-Again), Phaded(Dubfix), & DJ Intel (The Comeups, Platter Pirates). Hosted by ADaD (All Natural, Eulorhythmics). Positioned to be the defining voice in a rapidly evolving musical environment, FACE MELT continues for it's sixth installment July 29th at Darkroom (2210 W. Chicago Ave. 9pm, $10, 21+. RSVP via do312.com for $5 all night) featuring performances by BRC (Subfix, Dubs Alive), Ruckus (Betamorph) & Cos (Push Beats). When talking about Hip-Hop or any of the countless genres it has influenced, it's all about the beats. Even after a producer loops 'Amen Brother' for the millionth time, it will always be about the beats. They're the foundation of Hip-Hop, and the defining characteristic of any artist or genre claiming Hip-Hop as inspiration. And at FACE MELT, they're the only thing that matters. As if he's already plotting to bring an MPC to his cousin's quinceaƱera, Maker explains the underlying motivations of FACE MELT as "a gathering of different styles, cultures, and scenes that are all related... It's like a family reunion but with hard ass drums." Simple enough concept but reading between the lines, you may want to consider ear plugs! Check. Massive sold out shows? Check. Faces melted across the USA? Check. Being one of Chicago biggest Dubslingers for years now? Check. Ruckus AKA Charlie Bro has been a busy man this year. As many of you may know, Ruckus started as a drum and bass DJ. In early 2008 the pulsating sounds of dubstep grabbed a hold of him with no turning back since. Highlights include Ruckus destroying the Red Bull stage at the inaugural North Coast Music Fest in front of thousands of screaming bass heads and playing the first ever sold out Booty Halloween with DJ Dara and Eskmo. He's also shared the stage with a "who's who" of global talent including: Daedlus, The Gaslamp Killer, 12th Planet, Joe Nice, Rastatronics, Ginz, Metaphase, HULK, Mark Instinct, Claw, Nameloc, Richie August, Dara, Borgore, Bombaman, Eliot Lipp and Midnight Conspiracy "to name more than a few". Ruckus is also involved in the founding of a new super group of Chicago talent, Tripp Syndicate. The Syndicate features the roaring bass of Nameloc, the terrifying mic ripping MC Anti and the diabolical DJ skills of Ruckus ripping up 4 decks. 2010 allowed for ventures into the business side of bass music. Ruckus holds down the A&R duties of major North America dub step label: Betamorph's drum step venture while also maintaining the status of the labels head DJ. FACE MELT LINKS: |
